Location & description
Jaisalmer is a magical destination in the northwest corner of India. Located within the Thar desert and situated on the ancient silk route, it is a small city with ornate palaces (havelis), a sprawling fort, old temples with delicate sculptures mostly made of golden sandstone. It is also known as the golden city of India.
How to Reach
Jaisalmer is connected by railway and road with rest of India. The nearest airport is Jodhpur.
Places to see
Jaisalmer is a small city. The fort, the havelis, Gadisagar lake are within the city. The desert at Sam dunes is 42km away from the city. Best time to visit the desert is in the afternoon before sunset. Tour operators offer different packages for visiting the desert including camel safari and night stay at tent. You have to choose a package depending on your preferences.
